“As long as I provide enough free value, people should just want to hire me”

yes, that’s what 90% coaches would say

content is king (but really?)

I’ve seen many entrepreneurs fallen into this trap

focusing 100% of effect, time, resources, mind space into creating loads of quality content

spending 3 hours a day on a long blog post (that was me)

spending 10 hours creating a youtube video

spending 2 hours creating a pin on Pinterest

spending 6 months copywriting for website

100% focus on content

because of the belief that “As long as I provide enough free value, people should just want to hire me.”

3 months passed and no client

6 months passed and still no client

and the coach / course is still asking you to double down on content

that’s not wrong

but there’s sth important missing in the caveat — SALES

1. how do you make sales with the content?

2. how do people sign up with you from the content?

3. are your content moving your audience forward in the sales process?

4. are your content presenting your value and brand message?

5. do you strategically repurpose your content to turn them to cash?

when I asked these, there is usually a big pause

“what? I thought if I have enough quality content, clients will come eventually!”

yes, that’s true…. if you can wait til “eventually”

can you keep your passion and maintain the business until “eventually”?

and when that “eventually” comes, do you know how to sell?

chances are you were so focused and specialised in content that you haven’t practised selling

(and deep down you could be focusing on content because you want to avoid selling)

in any case you’re not prepared to sell

what’s the chances of your business sustaining more than 1 year in this circumstances?

yes you have loads of quality content but what you need is turn them into gold

and that requires the skill of sales

learning how to sell is inevitable if you are to succeed in business.
